Planning a Bathroom Remodel: Where to Start...

If you’re thinking about remodeling your bathroom, you might already be imagining beautiful tile, new fixtures, and a space that feels more relaxing and

functional.

But one of the most common things I hear when homeowners first reach out to Two Cats Interiors is this:

“We know we want to remodel... we just don’t know where to start.”

And that’s completely normal. A bathroom remodel involves many moving pieces, and the best projects always begin with thoughtful planning. Here are a few of the first steps I walk my clients through when beginning a bathroom remodel.

Start With How You Want the Space to Feel

Before we ever start choosing tile or fixtures, I like to talk with my clients about how they want the space to feel.

Do you want your bathroom to feel calm and spa-like, bright and fresh, warm and natural, or modern and clean?

At Two Cats Interiors, I often begin by helping clients identify the overall atmosphere they want to create. Once that vision is clear, it becomes much easier to make design decisions that support it.

Think About How the Bathroom Functions

A beautiful bathroom also needs to work well for everyday life. Some helpful questions to consider are:

  • Is there enough storage?

  • Does the layout feel comfortable?

  • Would a larger shower improve the space?

  • Is the lighting adequate?

When I work with clients through Two Cats Interiors, we look carefully at how the bathroom is currently used and how we can improve the layout so the space functions better. Often small adjustments can make a big difference.

Establish a Realistic Budget

Another important step in planning a bathroom remodel is understanding the budget early in the process. Your budget will influence decisions such as tile selections, plumbing fixtures, cabinetry or vanity options, lighting, and flooring materials.

Having a clear budget helps guide the design process so we can prioritize the elements that matter most to you. At Two Cats Interiors, I help clients make thoughtful choices so their investment goes toward the features that will have the biggest impact.

Select Materials That Work Well Together

Bathrooms include many different materials that all need to come together in a cohesive way. These might include wall tile, shower tile, flooring, countertops, plumbing fixtures, paint colors, and lighting.

One of my favorite parts of the design process at Two Cats Interiors is helping clients bring these elements together into a cohesive design that feels balanced and timeless.

Create a Clear Plan Before Construction Begins

One of the most important parts of a successful remodel is having a clear plan before construction starts. This includes things like tile layouts, fixture placement, lighting plans, and full material selections. When these details are worked out ahead of time, contractors can move through the project much more efficiently.

At Two Cats Interiors, careful planning is one of the most valuable ways I help my clients avoid delays and unnecessary changes during construction.

A Well-Planned Remodel Makes All the Difference

A bathroom remodel should feel exciting, not overwhelming. With the right planning and thoughtful design decisions, the process becomes much smoother and the finished space reflects exactly what you envisioned.

At Two Cats Interiors, I enjoy guiding homeowners through each step of the design process so they feel confident and supported along the way.
